The Truth Is..........

The truth is there have been miserable days. The truth is we have had days when we thought this was the biggest mistake we have ever made. The truth is we miss home. The truth is this is TOUGH! The truth is we have cried more than we have laughed. The truth is we have already looked in to coming home. The truth is we are not the best here. The truth is we are doing jobs that neither of us truly love. The truth is we are dying for some Tex-Mex. The truth is we are lonely. The truth is we often have no idea what we are doing. The truth is we sometimes feel like we are only doing this for the money. The truth is we left a school that was our 2nd family, to come to a school where we are the outsiders. The truth is we are scared. The truth is......it is hard to tell the truth.

The truth is we have good days, too. The truth is we have had days when we thought of how blessed we are to be experiencing this. The truth is we miss home, but home is still there. The truth is this is making us stronger people. The truth is, through tears and laughter, we have grown closer together as a couple. The truth is, we have traveled to places we would have never dreamed about by being here. The truth is we are being humbled by being here. The truth is we are challenging ourselves and becoming better educators. The truth is we have discovered some amazing new foods. The truth is we are discovering that having each other is enough. The truth is we are learning new things. The truth is we have been given an amazing financial and life opportunity. The truth is you will always have your family and the best part is, families grow. The truth is we are scared- and that's ok. The truth is............it is all about how you look at it.

  • Dear Jaime,
I have been following your blog and your " the truth is" blog moved me to make a comment. Being away from family, on the other side of the world, in a strange culture is tough. Been there done that and I had folks shooting at me to boot. However, time goes quickly and this experience will pass before you know it. What you are going through is kind of like JROTC summer leadership school. I know there were parts of summer leadership school that really wasn't that much fun, but I'll bet when you looked back on it, you never regretted going and I know you were stronger for having done it. You will be a stronger person and better teacher for this experience. Think of the "war" stories you will be able to tell your family, fiends, and students when you get back. Know that you have friends and family praying for your success and peace.

Brenda and I are doing great in retirement. We have a great church, joined a health club, Brenda works one day a week the the Burnet Chamber of Commerce, and I bought a boat for fishing. Life is good.

Just remember, out of all my commanders, I alway liked you best!
